History
Established in 1861 by Henry Wightman, H. Wightman & Son became a well known and much loved family business in the historic market town of Bungay. Over the course of more than 160 years, the business remained in family ownership for six generations, building a strong reputation within the local community. The shop specialised in a wide range of household furnishings and textiles, including furniture, bed linen, curtains, carpets, floor coverings and haberdashery. Renowned for its traditional customer service and extensive selection of home furnishings, it became a familiar and enduring feature of Bungays commercial life. As one of the town`s long established independent businesses, H. Wightman & Son formed an important part of Bungays heritage, reflecting the character and tradition of its historic town centre. Its eventual closure in 2024 marked the end of a remarkable chapter in the town`s retail history with the owner family members taking retirement.
